The year is 1962, Graham Hill narrates a lap around the Nürburgring, as Hermann Lang drives the car.
Racing an aluminum death trap around a windy circuit without barriers, wearing nothing but a leather skull cap and goggles. Never will we see anything like this again.

Aluminum car, steel balls.

Great footage. Not entirely correct display of how the Ring is though, Breidscheid-Karussel for example seems to be done in a couple of seconds (which it clearly is not). That straight-8 sounds amazing!

I wonder what a lap time of the nurburgring in this car was and how it compares to today

Yes, not a 100% accurate run, but great footage for old times sake!

In 1938 Hermann Lang lapped the 'Ring on the Mercedes-benz W154 in 9 minutes and 43.1 seconds during qualifying. Fastest race lap time was Richard Seaman on the same car, doing 10 minutes and 9.1 seconds. Considering how rudimentary these cars were, and how narrow their tires were, that is quite a fast lap.
